Unanswered Calls

When you have a business that is hectically busy and there is just nobody to answer the phone calls, it might be worthwhile to pause and consider how a customer might perceive the unanswered calls- or what they might be thinking whilst they hang on listening to canned music or sit waiting for someone to answer.

They themselves might have a busy schedule and be getting irritated because they don’t want to waste their time hanging on the end of a telephone waiting instead of getting on with jobs that are clamouring for their attention. The more impatient they get, the less they are going to want to co-operate with you. They may want your services or they may want your products, but if they can get those more easily and quickly elsewhere you may have lost a valuable customer.

As they wait, they may think you don’t care. They may think that if you can’t be bothered to answer the call promptly their custom is not important to you and so they might be tempted to take it elsewhere.

They might consider that if there is a seeming lack of efficiency in answering their call they might think that this will be reflected in your level of service. One doesn’t want to be thought of lazy or lacking efficiency!

None of the above may remotely be true of your business, but when a call goes unanswered the potential customer has only his, or her thoughts to think!
